The yacht Compromise, a Nicholson 32 skippered by Canadian Jos Brosnan, sent a Mayday at 9.05 yesterday morning, declaring a medical emergency on board, whilst approximately 300 miles north of Cape Verde.

One of the Compromise’s crew is a doctor and, having ascertained, in conjunction with USCG Norfolk, that the nearest commercial vessel was 11 hours steaming away, Falmouth Coastguard arranged for medical advice to be relayed to the yacht from a hospital in the UK.

The treatment alleviated the skipper’s condition, but Falmouth is concerned at the lack of experience of the other two crew members, who have said that they are finding it difficult to slow Compromise down, in the heavy swell. They have, therefore, accepted an offer of assistance from the world’s largest sloop, Mirabella V

The Mirabella V, which is in transit to the Caribbean, under engine, is making about 13 knots and is expected to rendezvous with Compromise at about 2000 UTC.
