The supermaxi yacht Wild Oats XI, current Sydney Hobart Yacht Race holder, is on record breaking pace

in this weekend's Audi Sydney' Gold Coast Yacht Race.

Within an hour of the start in Sydney harbour at 1pm, Wild Oats XI, owned by Bob Oatley and skippered by Mark Richards, was averaging 21 knots. If she is able to maintain this pace for the 384 nautical miles to the Gold Coast she will arrive at around 9am tomorrow (Sunday).

This time would put her some 7 hours inside the record time which was set 13 years ago by the maxi yacht Brindabella.
