Crewsaver RS Elite Stadium Cup preview
Thursday, 09 August 2012
The Crewsaver RS Elite Stadium Cup on Sunday evening at Cowes is poised to be a good show. The course will be set close to The Green with racing between 6 and 7pm and live commentary on Cowes Radio plus the onshore speakers.
Four boats will contest each of the two heats, with the top two from both heats going through to the final. Each race will last only about 15 minutes around a tight windward / leeward course with a downwind finish.
The outcome is too close to call with a line-up that features four RS Elite National championship winners, including Jono Brown in Aeolus (who will defend the title later this month) and Crauford McKeon’s Kandoo III fresh from winning the Southern Area Championship last weekend ahead of the new Kiss. John Patterson’s Irish championship winning team in Momentary Laps will be out to get-one-over the English and, adding a touch of real class, Flying Dutchman Gold medalist Iain MacDonald Smith in Freebie will find out just how fast this team can get to grips with a new Class.
The Crewsaver RS Elite Stadium Cup will be awarded at around 8pm at the Sail for Gold bar on Cowes Parade, as soon as the competitors get ashore. Everyone is welcome to see the winners walk away with three of Crewsaver’s finest new lifejackets as well as the trophy itself - four beers for the price of three if you have a Cowes competitor card!
More information about this event can be found on the RS Elite Class website www.RSElite.org
Crewsaver are also an associate sponsor of the Wight Vodka RS Elite National Championships hosted by the Royal Yacht Squadron which start just ten days after Cowes Week with a record 40 boat fleet. The ten race series will be interspersed with a great social programme, made all the better by Wight Vodka sponsorship and some very special cocktails.
The RS Elite is a modern classic three person racing keelboat - quick, beautifully mannered, great looking and with building fleets. More details of the RS Elite are at www.RSsailing.com
