Western Australia 470 sailors in with a chance in the Olympic Medal Race

For many of us here in Perth it has been a run of late nights while we have been glued to our TV’s soaking in the Olympic media coverage – the highs and the lows and every emotion in between have dominated our days.

We shared Tom Slingsby’s excitement of the first sailing Gold Medal in these Olympics – the coveted Gold he has dreamed of and worked tirelessly for since Beijing.  Surrounded by his family and supporters he was the happiest man alive – that feeling of euphoria was tangible.  What a proud moment for Australia!

Yesterday we were again treated to the brilliant spectacle of Australia’s Nathan Outteridge and Ian Jensen winning Gold in the 49er Class – as they were carried aloft by fellow Aussies up the beach with flares blazing, their emotions were absorbed by us all – joy, pride, relief and so much more.

There was more good news overnight from the Women’s 470 class where WA’s Elise Rechichi and Belinda Stowell battled triumphantly for a place in the top ten securing entry into the medal race.

They took the second race of the day beating Team Great Britain by a mere two minutes earning their spot in the medal race which is being run on Friday night 10th August at 7:50pm Perth time.

Come on Perth - Let's cheer them on to win!
