2012 RS:X Youth World Windsurfing Championships: Normal Service Resumed - 25 knots

Tuesday, 23 October 2012

Having taken Pawel Tarnowski [POL] to task for a less than brilliant first day, all credit to him for bouncing back today by posting two bullets and a second and take advantage of the first discard to climb to second place overall just 4 points adrift of Kieran Martin [GBR] who had a less than stellar 3rd race today

A 1 and a 3 in the first two races had Kieran looking unassailable but he dropped to 15th in the last. Mattia Camboni [ITA] who now leads the U17 division and sits third overall with a 3-4-7 today is still looking good for his predicted podium finish.

With the offshore wind and the strong current racing at this venue is not easy. Off the start, those in the know were heading right towards the point and out of the strongest current before making one long tack up the course towards the windward mark set about 150 metres off shore.

It's certainly tricky out there...

This certainly does not seem to worry Anastasiya Valkevich [BLR] who made her presence felt today. Two bullets and a fifth see her climb to bronze medal position just two points behind Neomi Cohen [ISR] with Saskia Sills [GBR] just doing enough to maintain her place at the top of the leader board although her advantage has been sliced in half.

Back in 4th in the RS:X Youth Women's fleet is a star in the making. Shahar Tibi [ISR], the reigning Techno 293 European Champion has her 15th birthday this coming Saturday. She put together a 6-2-1 in the breeze today to tie with Anastasiya on points and overtake Imogen Sills [GBR] who maintained her overnight 5th position with a steady 4-6-6

The first French women, Jeanne Dantes is back in 6th but with only 4 points between her and a podium place, she has all to play for in the coming days.

The second discard kicks in after the 12th race so the points are set to tighten if the forecast holds good. Racing starts at 1030hrs tomorrow with another windy day in prospect.
