RS:X Youth World Windsurfing Championships: Saskia and Pawel reign supreme
Wednesday, 24 October 2012
With 2 full days of racing to go, there is now so much clear blue water between the RS:X Youth Fleet leaders and the rest that it is hard to imagine how anyone can challenge Pawel Tarnowski [POL] and Saskia Sills [GBR] for their respective world titles.
Pawel punched home yesterdays emphatic performance by taking 2 race wins and one second. Saskia did the same. One more day of such supreme dominance and the game really will be over. Never mind the double points medal race. It will be just a formality... if it isn't already
Now with 8 races completed the fight is well and truly on for the minor places. Mattia Camboni [ITA] took advantage of Kieran Martin's [GBR] nightmare day to snatch 2nd place overall with a 2-2-8. Kieran never really fired up his afterburners. He posted a 12th in the first. An 8th in the second. Then put the last race together with a solid 4th.
The other one on the wrong end of the scoreline was Yann Dupont [FRA] who added 29 points to his score [8-10-11]. He drops to 5th overall behind Martin Olmeta [FRA] who put in a 5-5-1 to boost his charge towards the bronze medal.
Over in the RS:X Youth Women's fleet the points are tighter. Anastasiya Valkevich [BLR] pushed hard with a 4-4-3 scoreline to take over the silver medal position from Neomi Cohen [ISR] who wrote off her chance for a medal with 3 mid fleet results.
It was Shahar Tibi [ISR] who revelled in the 20-22 knot breeze to score 3-2-6 and climb to 3rd overall. She is tied on points with Anastasiya with Jeanne Dantes [FRA] just two points back and Imogen Sills [GBR] another 5 points adrift
These two are ready to pounce on the smallest opportunity of a podium position. They are still up for grabs and they can almost taste it.
Windguru is forecasting good breeze for the next three days so this business end of the 2012 RS:X Youth World Windsurfing Championships is set to get really exciting
