Lighting Mike Golding’s quest for a ‘Bradley Wiggin’s’ podium moment in the Vendee Globe 2012

Exposure Marine is delighted to announce its support of Mike Golding in his bid to win the prestigious ‘Vendee Globe 2012.’ The race is solo yacht racing’s endurance equivalent of the Tour de France, but without any overnight stops and a support team in tow! It is probably the single most difficult sporting challenge that exists in the world.
Mike, three times single-handed World champion and the only British competitor to compete in three previous Vendee races, finished in an astonishing third place in 2005 without a keel. Currently, he is out there, aiming to better this result.
Mike says, “It would be a ‘Bradley Wiggins moment’ for a British sailor to win the Vendee." The cycling analogy is a good one. British made, Exposure lights have a heritage as the pedigree manufacturers of world class, high beam, long-lasting and lightweight lights for the cycling market. Exposure has now introduced their same outstanding technology for sailors. And the message that these are ‘no ordinary lights’ for sailors is getting out there fast.
Mike and his team have chosen Exposure Marine’s lights as they are multi-functional, lightweight, intensely powerful, cordless and easily rechargeable. With dual white and red beams to protect night vision, a brilliant 700 lumen search light mode, with medium and low beam options, Exposure’s lights make everything from main-sail trimming to close up equipment checks quick and easy. Plus, the SOS safety feature means they are always there for you in an emergency as a personal safety device too.
Project manager and boat captain, Graham Tourell says “Due to these torches having dual functions and really long lasting rechargeable batteries, Exposure Marine lights have allowed us to kick off our heavy main trimming torch, diving light, as well a strobe and the stock of spare batteries, which all add weight. It all helps with Mike’s boat speed in his bid to win!” Mike has taken Exposure’s X2, XS and Pro lights on board, and his feedback will be integrated as part of the on going R&D process for current and new products.
Mike’s outstanding seamanship and pedigree as a solo ocean racer puts him high in the running to become the first Briton to ever win the Vendee Globe. Ellen McArthur is the only other person to have got close, coming second in 2001.
