Le Defi Adrien: Anne Quemere abandons Pacific kite crossing, cargo vessel en route

Wednesday, 10 December 2008

Anne Quéméré, who left San Francisco on November 4, in an attempt to kite sail across the Pacific, has had to abandon the attempt.

Having covered almost have the distance, Anne found herself in the Doldrums and has been almost without wind for 10 days. In that time, she has not made the slightest progress. In fact, what little wind there has been came from the wrong direction and, in one night, Anne lost all the progress she had made in a week. In addition, she has had equipment failure.

Her decision to abandon the attempt came after her OceanKite lost all power. A cargo vessel, which was about 25 hours away, has diverted to attempt a rescue. The operation, which will take place at night, will be difficult as, without power, her system Active-Echo, which amplifies her signal will not operate.
