France. Poncin Yachts to introduce first model of new Catana catamaran range at Paris Boat Show

Wednesday, 22 November 2006

After more than thirty years of experience, passion and creativity on every level of sailing, from distribution to management of one of the largest boatyards in the world, Olivier Poncin founded the Poncin Yachts Group in 2001.

Six years later, the company already has a workforce of 450 people and continues its recruitment by setting up the permanent training, in situ, of tomorrow’s talents.

The Group, first quoted on the Stock Exchange in April 2005, produces four ranges of sailing boats constructed at three industrial sites – one in Brittany, one in Charente and one in Roussillon.  Additionally, the Group manages ‘Port Pin Rolland’ in Toulon harbour, which can accommodate 450 boats afloat and 500 ashore, and which provides all the boatyard and maintenance services that the leisure boating market could wish for.

Innovation, a growth vector

The Poncin Group has two aces in its hand.  One is the company’s youth combined with its considerable financial resources, and the second is the know-how of a team that is experienced in boat construction.   What other boatyard can pride itself on starting the third millennium with such freedom of expression in both its creativity and its innovation?

Starting with a blank sheet made it possible to design tools adapted to the new demands of the market.  The process of infusion-injection, used in the construction of the hulls, floors and decks of the Harmony range, is a good illustration of the Group’s technological prowess. These are proof of the sturdiness and safety of stable yachts.  Robots have replaced human beings in the tasks that demand meticulous attention and give off noxious fumes, etc.

The leisure sailing market, the workplace market, a respect for people and the environment, the circulation of ideas and information, etc. - the Group has structured itself on all these various levels, and is today accelerating its development.

The PONCIN YACHTS Group will be presenting the various new models from the Group’s ranges at the Paris Boat Show.

Catamarans:  the Catana marks the revival of a most exclusive range

Catana 50’:  The first model of the new range, this 50 footer being launched on the 1st December at the Paris Boat Show is the answer for owners who are long offshore cruising enthusiasts - a seaworthy, high-performance boat with an even longer range. On the construction side it stands out as the first boat having the forward beam built into the moulding and made entirely from composite materials, and also, for environmental protection, providing an electric disposal unit for organic waste as well as 5 grey and black water holding tanks.

Monohull sailboats: Harmony presents the ‘Elegance’ range

Following the successful launch of the ‘Elegance’ version, represented in the autumn boat shows by the Harmony 47’, the Charente boat builder is extending the range at the Paris show by also exhibiting the other three largest models from the range - the Harmony 34’, 38’, 42’ along with the 47’.

Motorboating: KELT unveils a new RIB range

The first model, the Sea Hawk 880, reached a GPS timed speed of 50 knots in sea trials.  Its capability of accommodating up to 20 persons on board, along with its trailerability with deflated tubes, makes it ideal for day trips out with the family.
