Brewin Dolphin Channel Islands Hobie Cat Championships set for St. Aubins bay
Tuesday, 22 September 2009
Organised by the Royal Channel Islands Yacht Club, the Championships have grown steadily since its inception 18 years ago and this year is expected to see one of the largest Fleets with around 25 to 30 boats competing, the organisers are hoping to improve on the record turnout of 26 Hobie Cats last year. With teams from Guernsey the UK and as far afield as Germany participating in the Championships. The racing around triangular courses, utilising the length and width of St. Aubins bay, is for all Hobie classes. The popular Hobie 16 in both ‘A’ and ‘B’ Fleets will be the strongest class with around 17 boats entering, there are also the powerful 18ft Hobie Tigers, Junior Hobie Dragoons and other Hobie models racing in Class, Open, Masters, Youth, Woman’s and Junior events.
With sailing conditions at the weekend looking good for the event and 6 qualifying races to find Champions in the various categories , the organisers and crews are looking forward to an excellent weekend of competitive racing. The bay will be full of colour over the two days, reflected by the bright Hobie sails, showcasing their event of the year.
Racing starts at 10am on both Saturday and Sunday. Registration and weigh in for all crews takes place on Friday evening between 6.30pm and 7.30pm. at the Royal Channel Islands Yacht Club. Notice of Race and entry forms are available on the website www.rciyc.je or can be collected from the Yacht Club.
