The Yacht Racing Design and Technology Symposium will take place alongside the World Yacht Racing Forum, on December 9-10 at Monaco’s Grimaldi Forum. James Pleasance, the event Director, tells us what it is all about.
YRDTS: What is the Yacht Racing Design and Technology Symposium, what’s the purpose of the event?
James Pleasance: “The Symposium is an ideal opportunity for yacht designers, experts and yacht owners to meet and network together. As we found with the inaugural World Yacht Racing Forum, this type of conference is invaluable in creating new ideas and business opportunities because it provides a unique platform for experts to share ideas and best practices.
YRDTS: Who will attend the Symposium?
James Pleasance: “We have planned a series of presentations and panel discussions from industry experts in yacht design, composite technology, rigging, coatings, sail technology and hardware. In addition, we have invited yacht owners and skippers from around the world to attend free of charge to meet designers and suppliers and discuss their own racing projects. Delegates will also have the opportunity to meet pro sailors and event organisers attending the World Yacht Racing Forum in the same venue.”
YRDTS: How technical will the Symposium be?
James Pleasance: “We have designed the Symposium not to be too technical but certainly to focus on some key areas in design and technology. Rather than simply a series of presentations, the panel discussions will allow delegates to interact and participate in the discussions and offer their own views.”
YRDTS: What do you hope the YRDTS to achieve?
James Pleasance: “Above all, we hope the Symposium will help forge a number of new business opportunities between designers, suppliers, owners, pro sailors and event organisers. By organizing the Symposium at the same time as the Forum (and also Motor Sport Business Forum), it’s a must attend event at the end of the sailing season.”
YRDTS: Are there any other events for delegates to participate during the Symposium?
James Pleasance: “Yes absolutely. All delegates are invited to the Welcome Reception at the Yacht Club de Monaco on 8th December, and then also at the ‘Track & Ocean’ cocktail reception on the 9th December which we will co-host with the Motor Sport Business Forum as last year They are both excellent networking functions as well as the conferences themselves.”Last Updated ( Wednesday, 11 November 2009 )
