Sea Dubai RC44 Gold Cup : Fleet becalmed as Shamaal blows out
Wednesday, 25 November 2009
The promising Shamaal, the local wind, which fuelled the practice race yesterday, had blown itself out by today and consequently left the RC44 fleet becalmed on the first race day of the Sea Dubai RC44 Gold Cup at Dubai International Marine Club. High spirits from the Sea Dubai team as they left the dock were in stark contrast to the frustration that marked their return. With all the boats wallowing on the water and Committee boat straining to find some wind from 11:00 Peter ‘Luigi’ Regio called it a day at 16:00. Kazuhiko Sofuku, the Sea Dubai teams Bowman had just experienced the calm conditions in Nice during the Louis Vuitton Trophy and was looking forward to better conditions in Dubai, but today it was not to be. Commenting on the lack of wind today Hartwell Jordan said, ‘I’ve been sailing here three times now and this is the first time there has been no racing because of lack of wind.’ Hartwell, is the mainsheet trimmer on team Sea Dubai and spends his time when he’s not sailing the in the RC class sailing on the TP 52’s and STP65 along with other team members Markus Wieser, match race skipper and tactician, Kazuhiko Sofuku and Matti Paschen, trimmer.
Racing is scheduled for tomorrow at 11:30
