UK. Funding opportunity for Wild Fishing Wales

Wednesday, 20 January 2010

More people are set to enjoy wild fishing by having better access to a network of river fishing beats and still waters as Environment Agency Wales launches its second round of funding for Wild Fishing Wales.

Wild Fishing Wales is a £2.6 million Environment Agency Wales project part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund through the Welsh Assembly Government and the Countryside Council for Wales' Communities and Nature strategic project.

The aim is to make the network of river fishing beats and still waters more accessible by helping local communities, fisheries, angling clubs, landowners and river trusts to deliver projects that not only improve access but also improve the local habitat.

Environment Agency Wales has launched the second round of funding for the Habitat and Access Improvement Scheme and is inviting organisations in the Convergence Area of Wales* to put forward expressions of interest.

Dr Ben Wilson, Sustainable Fisheries Project Manager for Environment Agency Wales said: “This is second of four funding rounds. It’s a fantastic opportunity for Welsh fishing clubs, fisheries and community groups and we expect to see plenty of applicants.”

You can find the Notice on the Sell2Wales website or by contacting Environment Agency Wales. The closing date for expressions of interest is 17th February 2010.
