Audi Melges 20 kicks off final Winter Series event at Bacardi Miami Sailing Week

The final act of the three-part 2010 Inaugural Audi Melges 20 Miami Winter Series gets underway this weekend at Bacardi's Miami Sailing Week, hosted in part by Coconut Grove Sailing Club (CGSC), supported by Shake-A-Leg Miami and Melges Performance Sailboats. Fifteen teams have registered to compete, making it the largest gathering yet for the Winter Series.
The usual suspects are in attendance, including series leader Jeff Ecklund (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) on STAR and Eric Wynsma (East Grand Rapids, Mich.) on Superfly. Back for more incredible action are Michael Kiss (Macatawa Bay, Mich.) on Bacio, Robert Wilber (Stony Creek, Conn.) on Cinghiale, Marc Hollerbach (Grosse Pointe Park, Mich.) on Fu and Dave Hammett (Washington Grove, Md.) on Simplified Sophistication. The fleet would like to welcome first time competitor and Commodore of CGSC, Nick Martens (Miami, Fla.) on Nemaste.
Wednesday was spent attending to registration duties and a little bit of time went towards prep and practice. Bacardi treated later in the afternoon with a rum happy hour, followed by an incredible party at GCSC that featured a lavish spread of food and beverages. A brief skipper's meeting offered up great advice from Regatta Chair Ron Rostorfer and PRO Bruce Golison regarding the predicted 'breeze on' weather forecast. Racing commences on Thursday and runs through Saturday.
