New additions guide GAC Pindar to a promising start in Cardiff
Cardiff 18 June, GAC Pindar debutants Chris Draper and Kazuhiko Sofuku made a strong start to Act 4 of the Extreme Sailing Series in Cardiff, with four podium finishes to end the opening day in fifth position.

Any fears that the GAC Pindar crew would struggle due to the new crew line-up were quickly dismissed by a third place finish in race three, followed by second place in race four. The crew who were co-skippered by Draper and Seve Jarvin, ended a day in the glorious Cardiff sunshine strongly with third place in flight eight and second in the penultimate race of the day.

After Day 1, GAC Pindar has 73 points which puts them in fifth position, just four points behind SAP Extreme Sailing in third place.

Co-skipper Draper comments: “We’re delighted to get off to such a positive start at our home event. We found some great form early on which may have surprised some, but we’re confident we can continue to produce more podium finishes throughout the rest of the week. As we get to know each other better we’ll improve more and more each race.”

GAC Pindar Team Principal Andrew Pindar comments: “I’m proud of how well our crew performed on their first day of competitive racing together. To end the opening day in fifth position is a fantastic achievement and we’re looking forward to another big day tomorrow in front of a big crowd on the Cardiff Bay. Chris and Kazuhiko’s experience is already having an impact and I’m sure they will continue to help bring the best out of Seve, Tyson and James. ”

Racing continues 19 June at 14:00 GMT. For live updates from Cardiff please see http://sailing.gacpindar.com/live-stream
