Barcelona World Race: One Planet One Ocean & Pharmaton - Aleix Gelabert and Didac Costa
The One Planet, One Ocean & Pharmaton crew are Spaniards Aleix Gelabert and Didac Costa. Progressing from the Mini Class, for both skippers the double-handed, round the world event is a great professional and personal challenge. Also, that challenge extends beyond the ocean adventure itself as they are collaborating on numerous oceanographic research projects as they sail round the world. These form part of the agreement set out between the FNOB and the UNESCO Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (UNESCO-IOC), whose motto is “One Planet, One Ocean”.

The boat and crew are acting as a platform for raising environmental awareness; unique witnesses of global climate change on the world's oceans. Aleix Gelabert from Blanes, Girona and Didac Costa from Barcelona are a great example of the career trajectory of ocean sailors who cut their teeth in the gruelling Mini Class. Following in the steps of Bruno García, Anna Corbella and Gerard Marín, and supported by GAES in their “Follow your Dreams” (Persigue tus Sueños) programme as well as by the FNOB, Aleix and Didac are are making the leap into the IMOCA Class having put in an immense amount of groundwork in the Mini Class.

This crew is young, talented and hopeful and for both sailors taking on the Barcelona World Race is a dream come true. Aleix, who is an architect, faced his first tough sailing challenge in the Mini Transat 2011. He knows the IMOCA 60s very well indeed, having been part of the shore crew for the FNOB yachts such as Anna Corbella and Dee Caffari's GAES Centros Auditivos. Didac is a firefighter by profession and was the first Spaniard to finish the Mini Transat 2011 in the Series category.
